Hi world, my name is Takafumi Toyozumi. I lived in Tennessee during my childhood, played basketball for 9 years and I represented Japan as a member of the U-19 Ultimate Frisbee team. I have a teacher’s license to teach in English. I live to help others and make them happy.
It is our first morning in downtown San francisco!!!
We are hyped up and ready to learn how to become great global leaders!!!
First, we thought about one mindset we would maintain and practice throughout the day.
Next, by introducing the story behind our names, we were able to understand each other more.
Moving on to the Leadership Workshop, we were given 10 minutes to draw an image or scene that described our best leadership experience. Using various colors to describe our experience let our peers understand and gain a clear vision about our experience. After that, we paired up and explained what our experience was to a partner.
This workshop was held:
1.) to remind ourselves that we are capable of being great leaders,
2.) to introduce how we approached a problem and stimulated ourselves to take action as leaders,
3.) to give us a chance to imagine and think what we would do in a similar situation by standing in each other’s shoes.
I have noticed that the actions we take show how passionate we are in solving problems not only for yourself, but especially for others.
We must all have the will to serve, give, and sacrifice ourselves in order to gain respect and trust from others. This will be one important mindset we need in order to enable others to act.

I have introduced a story back in 2014’s ALC Program. There were about 10 people from my university which consisted of 2 returnees and 8 students who were not fluent in English. I felt the need to gather up every week to give all of us a meeting to bring forward our worries and struggles we were experiencing at that moment. By guiding the meeting and looking after my peers, I learned that it is very important to let others know why it is important to do such thing.
I have the will to solve homelessness issues, which is a topic I cannot fully experience back in Japan. By being a pioneer and taking the first step to have the courage to help somebody else, will influence others to do the same. As humans, we tend to forget how much we have been helped from other people. This is because we take things for granted, and forget that a little can be enough for someone.
We make a living by what we earn, but we make a life by what we give.
