I am Nanako Tojo. I am a second-year student in the Faculty of Law of Kyoto University. I participated this program to have better understanding of poverty in developed countries.
In individual project we chose one social issue which we are interested in and made a website about it. We wrote the problem we focused on, our vision, our values of leadership, and programs to solve the problem. At the end of the website we had a sign up form so that we can get contact from those who have interests in the problem.
We began making our own websites on the fourth day. On the seventh day of this program, we could get advice from one of the organizers. After that we improved our websites. On the ninth day we had a presentation of our websites. After we practiced with a partner, each of us presented our website.
My topic was inequality in education. From the beginning of individual project I exchanged my opinions with some members. By expressing what I thought and listening to my friends’ advice my website became better. I could some concrete programs to tackle the problem. I realized that doing assignments together can be effective because I usually work on my tasks alone.
I enjoyed the presentation. Each of us had different interests and their own values and ways of thinking. I could see personality and identity from the problem we chose because the choice was based on our background. I got many new points of view and knew about some problem I have never heard.
Through this individual project I gained better understanding of not only the problems which I knew little before but also that I chose.
